Work-Life Balance: Don’t Forget to Be Part of the Moments You’re Capturing
By Drude Avi Art

There is something incredibly satisfying about doing something you genuinely love. For me, that’s creating photographs. I love taking an ordinary moment and turning it into something beautiful. Editing relaxes me, gives me a creative outlet, and allows me to create memories for other people that they can hold onto.
But even something you love can become exhausting when you forget to give yourself permission to stop.
You Can’t Do It All
Most of us like to believe we can do everything. We can work, take care of everyone, answer messages, finish that last project, clean the house, keep up with responsibilities, be there for the people we love—and somehow still have energy left for ourselves.
So we try.
And try.
And keep trying.
Then, at the end of the day, we’re sitting there completely frazzled, exhausted, and wondering why something we normally enjoy suddenly feels like another obligation.
That’s when burnout starts creeping in.
Burnout doesn’t always mean you hate what you’re doing. Sometimes it happens because you love it so much that you never give yourself permission to put it down.
Your Relationships Need Your Presence, Too
Work-life balance isn’t necessarily about dividing every day perfectly between work and home. Some days work will need more of you. Other days your family, partner, friends—or simply you—need to come first.
What matters is recognizing when you’ve been giving too much of yourself to one area of your life.
Sometimes spending time together doesn’t require some huge romantic plan. My husband can be playing Bubble Pop while I’m sitting nearby working on photographs. 😂🫧 We can be doing completely different things and still enjoy simply being together.
But there also needs to be a point when the computer gets turned off.
Talk. Laugh. Watch something together. Go somewhere. Be ridiculous. Sit quietly together. Make memories that have absolutely nothing to do with work.
The people you love shouldn't only get whatever energy you have left over.

Self-Care Isn’t Something You Have to Earn
Self-care doesn't have to mean expensive vacations, spa days, or elaborate routines.
Sometimes self-care is closing the laptop.
Sometimes it’s saying, “That can wait until tomorrow.”
It can be sleeping in, listening to music, taking a long shower, getting outside, spending time with someone you love, playing a game, reading, or doing absolutely nothing without feeling guilty about it.
Rest isn't wasted time.
You don't have to completely exhaust yourself before you're “allowed” to take a break.
Remember Why You Started
Photography is something that genuinely relaxes me. I love creating. I love watching an idea slowly come together. And one of my favorite parts of Drude Avi Art is being able to capture someone's personality, relationship, celebration, or special moment and turn it into something they can keep.
I never want to lose that feeling.
That's why balance matters.
When something you love becomes nothing but deadlines and pressure, creativity starts disappearing underneath the stress. Taking time away doesn't mean you aren't dedicated. Sometimes stepping away is exactly what allows you to come back excited about creating again.
And there will always be another photograph to edit.
There won't always be another chance to experience a particular moment.
While You're Capturing Memories, Make Some of Your Own
This may be the biggest reminder I need to give myself:
"While you're busy capturing everyone else's moments, don't forget to be part of your own."

Take the picture—but then put the camera down.
Finish the edit—but then close the computer.
Build your dream—but don't become so consumed with building it that you miss the people standing beside you.
Work hard. Create beautiful things. Chase the ideas that make you excited. Be proud of what you're building.
But take care of yourself, too.
Spend time with the people you love.
Laugh until your stomach hurts. Be lazy sometimes. Make memories that never make it onto social media. Have days where you accomplish absolutely nothing except being happy.
Because at the end of everything, life isn't only about the beautiful moments we capture.
It's about making sure we were actually there to live them. ❤️
